You have not been paying any attention to the efforts these people have made in Tennessee for instance - there's an effort to have that ban enshrined in the state's constitution. Similar efforts are happening in Utah, and several other states. Why is it that I a foreigner seems to be more aware of what is happening in the US than many of it's citizens.
Other thing, a mosque under construction in Murphysboro, TN was firebombed. Hate crimes against Muslims as reported to the FBI are up significantly. And you just have to hit a few news sites, including Washingon Times, the Washingon Post, fox News, etc., to see the anti-Islamic vitriol.
