Maybe they are hoping he will take a deal. Who knows?

I don't think the prosecution cares. They are passing the buck on to
the jury. You asked why Zimmerman is charged with 2nd degree murder.

As for what I think will happen? eh. Someone is going to be pissed off
no matter how it turns out. I really don't care. Did race have
something to do with it? Sure. Is this about race? No. Are people
trying to turn it into a racial issue for their own selfish gains? Yup,
but not on the grand scale that you are implying. Would this have
happened if the victim wasn't black? More likely than not.

Zimmerman was gung-ho to get him some justice and I don't think race had
anything to do with it in his mind, other than he probably shares the
general public perception that young black men are more likely to be
involved in criminal activities.

I think it is a little telling that the dispatcher had to ask him what
race the person was. Zimmerman reported a suspicious person. He didn't
report a suspicious black man, which is what a lot of people might say,
since race is the most identifiable physical characteristic someone has,
besides, perhaps gender.
