So, Pope John Paul remaining Pope showed strong faith and communion with
the Holy Spirit?

Could it possibly have shown arrogance and hubris, thinking no one else
could do the job as good as him?

I am not denigrating Pope John Paul, just offering alternatives.


"That he considered it just a job."

Could it also be humility, knowing that he does not have the energy and
drive necessary to lead the Catholic Church in trying times, he decides to
step down.
