Archeologists have found pottery in Israel that's much older than 6,000
years old. The early inhabitants of Tell es-Sultan - the precursor
settlement of Jericho had very advanced pottery - in terms of decoration
etc. They've been dated to the end of the Younger Dryas event of 10,000
years ago. Although controversial some have suggested that the early
Natufian village sites, dated around 12,000 years ago had some pottery.
More reliable are the finds at Hallan Cemi Tepesi used decorated stone
bowels made from sandstone. This culture has been dates to just after the
collapse of the Natufian culture. (Sorry geeking out here).
