"No state in the US has a socialist economy. None have free market economies
either. "

You are correct.

However, some states are closer to a true free market economy than others.
Likewise, some states are closer to a true socialist system.

So, the question is, how do these states on each end of the spectrum
perform?

Here is a list of the top ten performing states from 2001 to 2010

1. Texas
2. Nevada
3. Utah
4. Wyoming
5. North Dakota
6. Idaho
7. Arizona
8. Alaska
9. Montana
10. Washington

Before continuing, let's look at plank 2 of the Communist Manifesto:

2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.

Here is a list of states with no income tax:

   - Alaska
   - Florida
   - Nevada
   - New Hampshire
   - South Dakota
   - Texas
   - Tennessee
   - Washington
   - Wyoming

TN was ranked 23th, New Hampshire was ranked 32, Florida was ranked 14, SD
was ranked 16. It gets more interesting if you look at project outcomes.
TN is 18, NH is 27, FL is 9, and SD is 3.

The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the
name of ‘liberalism,’ they will adopt every fragment of the socialist
program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing
how it happened. -Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential
candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948
