And that, I believe, is where the core philosophical difference lies.
In my opinion you're right most of the time.  However, if you're
endangering others (e.g. by driving drunk), then I believe you're
wrong and the rights of the many to be safe from harm outweighs the
individual (who in this case, by the way, is by definition "under the
influence" and not entirely acting on their own accord anyway), so the
rule of law steps in and lends a hand to keep everyone safe.

We could continue this discussion all day long, but since we're going
to disagree, I'll just leave it at that.
