No science is not political, rather there are those who would force
politics into scientific endeavors. Ideally you go with what the data
dictates, and change when more data says so. For instance in my own
(former) field there's been a transition in the last 20 years from
behavioral to cognitive and now neurophysical based strictly on the data.

 It hasn't been scientists who have tried to politicize science, its been
politicians like Cuccinelli of Virginia who tried to shut down climate
change research at UVA who have injected politics into science. Or
corporatists like the Koch brothers who have funded bogus think tanks to
contradict scientific findings, or religious fanatics trying to inject
their own twisted beliefs (e.g., fetal pain, evolutionary theory, or the
heliocentric model the solar system).
