Plane ticket: over $800.00 (dont recall the exact cost). Immigration forms: $1,490.00. Theres over 2K right there. Then theres all the paperwork (nearly a ream), ink, and gas to drive to various places to get shit done, including driving a few times to Atlanta for interviews and shit.
And its not over. In 2015 she has to go in for another interview to get her 10 year green card (her current one is conditional for some reason). Which means more paperwork and more driving. This time shell have to drive from Colorado Springs to Denver and back. Ill be in Korea at the time so I dont know what my part will be and if it will cost anything. Hopefully just a phone call. Shits not cheap man. Thats just when she gets here. In the Philippines where she is from, theres the money it costs her to go from her province to Manila for physicals, shots, and paperwork for her visa. Thats not cheap either. A few hundred dollars in total. And of course, as is with most third world countries, since she is both the oldest child AND lives in a Western country, she is expected to send money to her family each month, which we do, $600.00 a month to feed her family and her son, who is still there. Thats why she wants her citizenship. So she can bring her family here. The only one she can bring right now is her son, but she wants her mom and dad, and brothers and sisters to come here too. Do the math. Its going to get expensive. But thats fine. I hate seeing her worrying like she is now about her family. They are on Leyte, about two hours from Tacloban, so they took the brunt of the recent storm. She has no idea if any of them are alive because there is no cell service yet.
