If an illegal immigrant is picked up for a felony, they are already subject
to deportation. If we pass a law that says "We're fixing immigration but
everyone here illegally already has to GTFO", who are you actually going to
be sending out? The criminal element that is already subject to deportation
and your can't find? Or the good folks with kids in school and a known
stable address? Think about it.

If we make it easy for people to come to America and work and we give them
a reasonable path towards citizenship and clear penalties for criminal
activities, I think that will help out some of the petty crime you are
talking about. Add in a sensible drug legalization program and you are way
closer. Include some money created by the above programs for better border
security and improved educational services for ESL students and you might
be onto making us more productive, stable, and low-crime.

Cheers,
Judah
