Quoting mark smyth <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > > can somebody tell me why?
I don't think so. > the Palestinians and doing what they are doing according to the media > ( which is disgraceful before anyone jumps on me) because of the > Irazeli occupation of the gaza strip Gaza Strip => Gaza Strip + West Bank + Jerusalem > obtained during the 6 day war(please feel free to correct me if i am > wrong) So they claim. But then again, a weak ago GW was claiming that all Saddam had to do was accept weapons inspectors. And now we know better. Personally, I think that a significant part, but not all, of the violence would stop if a new Iron Curtain along the border of before the 6 day war was build and the 2 societies were separated. (Leaving Jerusalem out of the equation for now.) > I'm fairly ignorant about the situation there (as i have said > before), so why don't the Israeli's move out of that area and stop > the conflict, if for nothing else the safety of their people, its > obvious by now that the Palestinians will never stop? Because history is repeating itself. Military occupation for self protection is a first step, and stepping back is relatively easy. (The US could move out of Afghanistan without any problems for the US itself, just an increased risk of having to go back there some time in the future.) But if you allow people to settle in those territories part of the electorate becomes dependent on the continuation of the occupation. Because it is quite clear that if the occupation ends, people will reclaim the land. Not a welcome option for a lot of people who depends on that land to grow their crops. Add in a bit of dependency on cheap labour in Israel itself (haven't heard any numbers the last few years, could have changed), some neighbouring countries where the governmental elite has an interest in continuation of the current situation, some worries about available freshwater and you have a very explosive mix. Quite like the colonization process, and the following decolonization. And then we even leave out that some people believe in things written in some very old books. > Also what is the deal between Israel and america (there is obviously > something going on)? > > In the same way there is something going on between the US and the UK > (the way the UK follows the US regardless of policy is disgracecful > in my opinion),is it just to bolster the UK's position with Europe? Those are the 2 least interesting ones I think. What is going on between the US and Saudi Arabia)? It looks like the US has every intention of repeating what it did in Iran in the seventies with the Sjah. What is going on between the US and Pakistan? If we are talking about countries with a confirmed mass destruction capability and an instable government, Pakistan tops the list.
