I understand your point entirely Tim, but perhaps the big difference is that
Gel's country's foreign policies don't have as much of an impact on the
world at large as yours? I don't think it's wrong to criticise other
countries for how they behave. And neither does America otherwise it
wouldn't involve itself in their affairs.

I'm not saying it's wrong per se, just that it's hardly surprising that
people feel free to criticise the most powerful nation in the world.

I find myself feeling the exact same thing sometimes Gel. I mean here's
something I think about. How many troops did your country send to Somalia
to try and feed people? How many did you send to eastern Europe to stop the
genocide? How many of your people have walked on the moon or in space?

What are the laws regarding free press in your country like (funny, the guy
doesn't comment on that fact the England has almost fully censored news when
the gov't wants it). What are your taxes like? Health care? Welfare?
Poverty? Unemployment?

See I have never been to your country, and I have never lived there. So I
don't consider myself as able to comment on it. I have no knowledge of your
situation. Even had I been there, I am still not a citizen of your nation,
and therefore I have no say what so ever in what goes on there, and as such
need formulate no opinion, as whatever happens there will have little to no
impact on my life.

Uhh..that's just a ridiculous standpoint to take when discussing a
subject on an international list.
It means you can't objectively argue anything about America with anyone
BUT Americans.

That's moves beyond the realm of 'patriotism' into something else.

Now, if Gel or will@hothorse said these things, I would have to defend
the US against all comers. Doesn't make much sense (even to me), but
criticism from inside good. Napster bad. Sorry. Criticism from outside
bad.

Still a bit unclear about it all,
Jerry Johnson

Jerry,

Where are you from? Again, just trying to get a perspective on thoughts
in different parts of the world.
