Just make sure you mix it up all the time, Smartones, Healthy choice and
lean cuisine make pretty decent lunches. 5 minutes in the microsowave and I
am good to go. Healthy choice meat, low calorie bread, makes a great
sandwhich. Hebrew national has a 1.5 g fat hot dog. I get those with light
bread buns. The reason I have been able to stay on it as long as I have is
becuase I don't get bored. I don't feel like I am missing anything, I just
eat the same things smarter.

Ben;

Lent, your story, the anniversary of my Dad's 2 heart attacks and a stroke,
Bill's story (which just about gave me a heart attack) and the other
discussions of people's medical problems lead to this. I give my hunger to
all these people and issues. Sad to think it takes stuff like this to open
our eyes, but that's just the way people are. Thinking about losing friends
and loved ones because of bad habits sucks.

I am ready to lose the weight. Just had day one lunch, which was a chef's
salad with fat-free raspberry vinagrette dressing. Tomorrow it will be the
same thing, maybe without any dressing (it tasted a lot like jelly and I
have no problem eating a dry salad), anything just so long as I am not
eating cheesesteaks, ruebens, onion rings, teriaki and Gen. Tzo all the
time. Sounds to me like the most effective weight loss technique on this
list is portion control, so I am going to take the time and really think
about what it is I am eating before anything goes in my mouth.

I do walk about 10 city blocks a day, and I am trucking when I go. I usually
arrive at my daughter's school winded, so something is circulating. Weight
loss (for me) comes with lifting weights. In high school, I used to lift all
the time in my sophomore year and put on 20 pounds in muscle. Broke my leg
playing football in my junior year and (while I was in the wheelchair)
gained lots of fat. Weighed 260 at graduation and lost 100 lbs the next year
just by lifting and dieting. So this really isn't something new for me, its
just trying to discipline myself with a child around is tricky (she makes
the best cookies, brownies, cakes, etc).

At the end of all this, I hope to have a nice documentary about how a bunch
of friends from across the Atlantic came togehter to improve their
lifestyles.

Mike-
coolness.
am truly honored if my tale influenced this at all.

BTW, my office has a frig and a microwave.
I will be able to bring healthy and tasty stuff with me.

Re: walking - are you walking at a fast-enough pace to get into your target
heart range? The rough formula is 220 - age = Maximum heart rate, do not
exceed. Moderate exercise = 65% to 70% of MHR. E.g., if someone were 30
years old, MHR would be 190, target approx. 125 - 135.

While "just walking" is good, if it's slower than this, you don't get the
cardio benefits. Swinging your arms when you walk ups the pulse a bit.

Along with the grilled chicken breast, consider grilled fish, esp. varieties
high in Omega-3 e.g. salmon. And with the salad, check the fat content of
the dressing.

And, check the fiber and sodium content on the labels.

Good luck, and here's hoping you have many healthy years!!
