IMHO, to cause a drain on enforcement resources at the level the media is reporting, to the point where the resources for law enforcement in major cities are seriously strained, is more than what a few hundred or even a few thousand college students can do.
Either there are more people protesting, or someone is blowing smoke up our collective noses. But something is not making sense about those arguments. As for the idea of punishing people for breaking *traffic* laws with penalties at the level of murder, the punishment should fit the crime. Think about it, what would be next? 25 years for handing ot pamphlets out in front of a concert? No matter how it is packaged, it is aimed at quelling protests. Right now, that may not seem like a big thing since the administration is so popular. But administrations change. I mean the ones that have set fire to lumber camps with people inside. While I think that the penalty is way too steep, I do think that making it high enough to prevent it from being a common occurrence is wise. I don't think that the cost of the protests can be used to gauge the support for the war. I mean a relatively small group of protesters can cause a lot of damage. Think about what 100 or 200 pissed off college kids can do.
