After 9/11, there was a big push for various types of national ID cards. Most fell through because the driver's license was deemed acceptable.
I don't know how most of the proposals were laid out, but for pilots they were adamant that it be a photo id. Pilot advocates successfully convinced lawmakers and the FAA that since people already have a photo id in the driver's license, that having that in addition to the paper pilot's certificate was a more practical approach than trying to run a whole host of photo id centers that would have required constant updating of the photo and that would cost pilots and taxpayers. So now the driver's license is actually a multi-purpose, government approved photo-id. -Kevin > -----Original Message----- > From: Jochem van Dieten [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Saturday, June 07, 2003 6:33 AM > To: CF-Community > Subject: Remove the Veil > > > Nick McClure wrote: > >http://www.local6.com/news/2254251/detail.html > > > >Judge ruled that Islamic law has provisions where the > woman's face can > >be shown if it serves the public good. > > > >I would agree that in this case, if Islamic law does in fact > allow her > >face to shown for certain things, this would count. > > But how does it serve the public good?
