Kevin,
Some companies (IBM, Sun, a lot aof large manufacturers) are helping
people who get deployed. Not everyone works for one of those companies. I
know a lot of people here at state that work in IT and make damn good money,
but end up deployed or even just activated to work locally and are really
hurting.
I have a friend from our data centre who is an E-4 in the Air Force. The
guys is smart and doing really well. Owns his own home and has a really
nice truck. Well he was activated to go back to being a load master on
C-130s. Now he has to do as much contract work as he can find, and come
here and try to work, as well as meeting his full time AF requirements, just
to be only a little in the red each month.
It's really not that different from active duty. I knew a lot of families
in the military on WIC and food stamps.
You do it for love of country or you leave. Pretty simple really.
