This is a wives tale.  If the baby bird fell out then you should return it
to the nest, the mother will care for it.

HOWEVER, its possible that the bird was booted out by the mother for being
defective, in which case the mother probably will reboot the baby out.  Or
its possible that the nest contained a cowbird baby, who boots out all the
native bird babies to get all the food for itself.
