| 7. Why do people get sick when they eat pork (the whole trichinella | thing, and aversion to pork)
When I was still a pre-teen (but getting close) This was explained to me by a Jewish Medical Doctor that had converted to Christianity: Pork, as opposed to any other meat, spends around 8 hours in the stomach before being digested. As a result, in this warm and wet environment, any possible contamination by an organism or parasite would have the opportunity to multiply and florish, and enough time to secrete toxins which can make people sick. I can remember that explanation to this day, as if the conversation had just taken place. Even after taking two semesters in college on Anatomy and Physiology, I have never seen anything that would counter the explanation. I guess this is one of the reasons the Fast food joints don't offer triple meat pork burgers! :-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?forumid=5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?method=subscribe&forumid=5 Host with the leader in ColdFusion hosting.
