My late grandfather, Alfred Taylor Bowen had an entire wall in his office
dedicated to plaques trophies and certificates that had his name spelled
incorrectly on them, when he died, he had upwards of 50.

Most common misspelling of his first name was Alferd, he was also Albert and
Alford on several.
Mistakes in his middle name were less common; Tyler was what happend to it
most often.
and for the last name; we found Brown, Bowing, Boeing (yes, like the
airplane manufacturer, which is weird 'cause he lived in Little Rock, AR and
New Orleans, LA for most of his life; I understand it when people ask me
'cause I at least live in the Seattle area...) Bowlen, Bowling.

On a more personal note; after years of having to explain how to
pronounce/spell my middle name, Hammel (sounds like Mark Hamill, from Star
Wars) and that I prefer William or Will and won't answer to Bill (that's my
other late Grandfather or my uncle...) and never having to explain to anyone
how to pronounce or spell my last name until I graduated from high school as
William Hammel (both pronounced correctly) *Brown* (my parents were waiting
to hear my name, but missed it; my diploma was misspelled), and this from
the Vice Principal that I worked for as an office assistant for an hour a
day for an entire year...

o_O

will (not bill)
