I have used a Garmin handheld for about three years and found it to be very reliable. Dropped it into a gorge where it fell into a stream once, go down to where it was almost an hour later and it was working just fine.
The only kicker is the cost of new maps, but you can reasonably get by with a single set of maps for at least two years. I figure someone out there must be into handheld GPS systems and geo-caching and that sort of thing. My hubby's birthday is coming up, and he's expressed an interest in a handheld GPS unit. But, I know nothing about them. I can read online reviews and stuff, but, what features should I be looking for? We don't have a lot of money to spend, so I'm not looking for the top of the line - just something functional.
