I have a Garmin eTrex Vista. It stores a ton of detail maps (loaded from
the "optional" CD) in its 24 mb of memory, and it has every feature that
you might want, except route finding (none of the tiny ones do this) and color.

The downside is that the battery life is terrible. They claim 12 hours on
alkaline aa's, but I seldom see 8 and 6-7 is more likely. Forget about
NiMH rechargeables.

With rebates and discounts, look to spend 3-400 with the maps.

If you just want lat/lon and no maps, the basic eTrex model can be had for
about $125 and the battery lasts much longer.

I don't like the models that have a basemap (big highways) but don't
support detail maps - for 80 less than the Vist, they aren't worth it.

BTW, I had a Magellan handheld before this and I much prefer the Vista.
