This is one I fall back on when I don't know what to bring to a dinner
party. Ah, Ravenswood Zin. ;)

We actually have a great wine store here that has an entire wall where no
bottle is more than $10.00, and every bottle is described on a little card.
The proprietors believe that everyone should be able to afford and enjoy
wine, and no one should feel like they don't know enough about it. So, you
never have to feel dumb when you go in there. I can go in, say, "we're
serving XXXX, and we've liked YYYY wine in the past." And they'll say, "Oh,
you should try this!" (Actually, we have two stores where I feel totally
comfortable doing that - but only one has a "value wall.")
