Constantine's Sword by James Carroll
It is a history of the church and the jews and how and where and when the
perceptions of jew hating happened and were encouraged by the church. Very
interesting reading.
The author is an ex-priest and so far (I'm about 1/5th through the book), I
have found him to be even handed. There's a lot of his own story in there,
some of which is relevant, some not, but he is a Catholic and I am sure is
also using this as a kind of confessional.

Because it says that the Jews were responsable for Jesus's death. This was
officially recanted in Vaticant II but Gibson belongs to a sect that doesn't
accept that.
Historically, there are problems with the Jews being to blame. The fact that
the Romans ruled the country and controled everything is the first. The
second is that IF the last supper was the passover supper, then the next day
was passover day and the Jewish court is NOT allowed to meet. A few of these
minor technical difficulties exists, but not really important.
> Not to get into a pissing match with you, Mike, but isn't the movie
supposed to be Biblically (New Testament) correct? Why is there a problem
with this by the Jewish population if it is?
