You forgot the other option, which is transfer to a school up the street that *did* run a schoolbus to his day care. They did agree to the transfer after I called the superintendant's office and explained that if I had to quit work I would be evicted. And if I was going to be homeless over the school the kid would attend, we weren't going to start the school year in a school where he would have to cross a major road at the ripe old age of four, in the company of kids from the next building over who had beat him up. Was NOT going to happen. That I would move myself into the shelter right then and thero and he would start the school year in the Bethesda cluster. Or hey, I could keep my job and he could go to the school that had transportation to the daycare. And I explained to them that they ought to be ashamed of themselves for putting "the stability of the Gaithersburg cluster" ahead of the well-being of a four-year-old. I am not nice when you mess with my kids, not nice at all. The transfer was approved, but not before they implied that I was racist for wanting such a thing. And that was the very excellent system in Montgomery County Md. To add credit where it is due, he had a really nice teacher there at the school he did attend.
The acting out reference was to a different school, much later. The principal saw no problem with failing a kid over handwriting, but demanded a conference when he dyed his hair green. I told her that if it upset her so much, she needed to add hair color to the dress code. And that I had bought him the hair dye and thought it looked good on him. And by the way, was she returning my calls about his teacher? Cause we needed to talk :)
Tell me some more about how to raise my kids, Bill :)
