You're right, M$ does not have a trademark on the word "soft" but they
*do* have a trademark in Microsoft. And this brings to mind the only
problem I have with this case. Mike Rowe used MikeRoweSoft instead of
MikeRoweSoftware or MikeRoweDesign or any other clever name that
would/could advertise his web design skills (MikeRoweWeb,
MikeRoweKickAssWebCreationPortfolio). He deliberately chose a name that
sounds phonetically like Microsoft.

Why *not* simply choose MikeRowe.com?

Now, I don't believe that M$ should have come down on this kid with both
boots like they did and I don't think there is truly a case of
copyright/trademark infringement here, but I do think that Mike Rowe
could have used better judgement, and I believe his true intention
despite what he might be saying was to engender a reaction from Redmond.
