well is it possible for the system admin to scan all computers using the Wifi and get their mac addresses? :-D

  online, it will be difficult to ping it.  The Univ network can do a systemwide
  scan, if they were so motivated, but I would not bet the farm on their
  willingness to do so.  At least get a report on file with Campus security for
  records sake.
