I'd have to say that I agree with you John. I think an annual "cost of
living" increase helps to mitigate what would otherwise become a declining
pay scale.
That being said, we're not getting any raises this year, our costs for
health insurance just went up, and I'm working more hours than ever. But,
the job market being what it is, I'm still not seeking a new job.
