I like a phone that stores numbers and makes calls.  Voicemail, Caller ID and Call-waiting are important. Occasionally I find myself in a boring situation and need to play blackjack on the phone.  But that feature is unnecessary.

I use Suncom, I don't know if you have it in your area.  I had the UnPlan, which costs $49.99/month + taxes + other addon crap and pay about $60/month.  I get unlimited calling in my area (two counties wide) + 300 anywhere minutes.

I recently moved and wanted to keep my number, so I changed to the UnPLan Gold, which is all of the same features but the free coverage is two states instead of two counties.  I talk as long as I want, anytime I want, so problems at all.  It's worth the money to not have to deal with the hassle. And suncom is partnered with AT&T, so the service is usually great.  Great customer service.

I'm not looking for best plans in my area, more like what companies are
good. Which phone features do people find necessary, useful, piece of crap.

  Like
  Camera's - Good or just a toy
Blue Tooth - I have a laptop with Bluetooth, if I get a phone with
bluetooth, will that give me a connection.
  MMS - Useful?
Text Messaging - Haven't really gotten into it, should I?
Anything else you can think of.

Companies, which have you had good experiences with, which are absolutely to
  be avoided.

  GSM? GAIT?

I've been with Sprint for the past 4 years, but I'm tired of them and
  now
with the ability of being able to take my number with me, I'm looking to
  switch.
