Why do you think eloping is such a popular idea?
One thing to suggest - my wife and I got married at a local state park, the
scenery was beautiful, we didn't have to spend a fortune at the florist and
it was inexpensive to boot. Granted, the music was canned and the minister
was a friend but that alone save us tons of money, I'm sure.
It all depends on how much you want to put on the act and the couple as
opposed to the presentation. If family and society call for a larger
ceremony then the expense is justified. When my mom asked why I wasn't
getting married in a church I pointed out the cost involved and informed her
that if she wanted the pomp and circumstance then I'd be more than happy to
have her help me pay for it.
My wife and I had a wonderful outdoor ceremony and those who came commented
on how nice it was. 6 years later it is the woman that I married and not
where our ceremony that is important to me.
Just my two centablos!
