newsgroup this morning when I heard the news.
As I was writing, I realized that it sounded as if I was singling this one
man out amongst all of the other men and women who gave their lives (or even
singling him out amongst those who are there at all). I know it was not my
intention to imply at all that any of the lives lost are less important than
any other. Forgetting pro-war/anti-war/whatever. The reality of it is that
there is a war, and lives have been (and will be) lost.
My heart goes out to everybody who has lost friends/relatives/loved ones in
the name of defending their country. But I do think that Tillman's story
deserves to be told. Telling it doesn't make his life any more or less
valuable than any others. Telling it doesn't mean we forget about the
others who have given their lives, or the loved ones they've left behind.
It simply means we are recognizing the sacrifices of one man. Doesn't he
deserve that?
Yes, others do as well...but Tillman's (relative) celebrity status puts him
in the spotlight.
I really hope that all came out right. I know it's a touchy subject, and I
should probably just sit back and shut up lest I offend anybody (futher?).
