Basically you can pick on pretty much any American you like and will get
nary a peep from me (well - except for Jim Henson, he rocked). but (sorry if
sounds hokey) I'll defend America to my last breath.

Yes precisely.
I was being sarcastic and it was all in reference to what Bush implies
about his view of things.
Is that really how he views his country and its place in the world?
I don't know but it certainly seems that way.
