If you have an extra box to play with, go to a university ftp ( such as
ftp-linux.cc.gatech.edu : anonymous login OK) and go to the
pub/linux/distributions directory and grab a couple. YOu can usually
find the ISOs for the distribution somewhere in that distro's directory
structure, or you can download the boot disks to do an FTP install.
Email me directly if you want some help with this.

As for choice of distros, I've had a lot of luck with Redhat, and am
returning to the Redhat camp after a sojourn in the SuSE camp.
