That's right... if applications are using the emulated Registry 
(/opt/coldfusion/registry/cf.registry) for client variable storage, then you should 
switch to using a datasource for that purpose instead.  One quick way to find out if 
the cf.registry is the problem, check the size.  It should be about 15-20 KB or so.  
If its anything greater than 50K, then you have a problem.  Most people who see this 
problem find the size to be 1 or more Megabytes, and CF has to parse the file for 
every request for client vars if the reg is used for that purpose.

Sounds like (CF5 on RedHat goes away for 15 minutes but doesn't crash) a
problem we had recently.  It is caused by registry bloat.  (Check the size
of the files in the registry diretory of your CF installation, usually
/opt/coldfusion.)  The fix is described in Tech Note 22730
