Personally, I would install from scratch - an upgrade is a risk which if it
fails, you will regret.  You should go for Red Hat Enterprise ES 2.1 or 3.0
(2.1 is still supported but not for that much longer) as this is listed by
Macromedia for use with CFMX 6.1.  The annual sub for Red Hat Network is not
particularly expensive (I realise that your working for a charity but they have
purchased CFMX so must have some budget!) and at the end of the day - time is
money.  RH ES works - is stable and unless you particularly enjoy messing with
the OS, is the logical choice.  You can skip the tech support contract and just
use the online resources.
