Hi @taylor13, 1: I agree that higher precisions should be allowed. A modified description (which could do with some rewording, but the intent is clear for now, I hope):
* By default, the user may use any precision they like for the interpolation calculations. If the `computational_precision` attribute has been set then the precision should match or exceed the precision specified by `computational_precision` attribute. \<_some text about allowed values and their interpretation_\>. 2: `computational_precision` is indeed better. You mention "calculational_precision" in 3 - was that intentional? That term is also OK for me. 3: A controlled vocabulary is certainly clearer than my original proposal, both in term of defining the concept and the encoding, and the IEEE standard does indeed provide what we need. I wonder if it might be good to define the (subset) of [IEEE terms]( https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_754*Basic_and_interchange_formats__;Iw!!G2kpM7uM-TzIFchu!kDvS2uzxTpXbi_SvRkMj7jpAp49Z57OgopLWHCcfl1zElW21_PdY7y2wrx2IyIgP299cXTZnO8I$ ) ourselves in a table (I'm reminded of https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://cfconventions.org/Data/cf-conventions/cf-conventions-1.8/cf-conventions.html*table-supported-units__;Iw!!G2kpM7uM-TzIFchu!kDvS2uzxTpXbi_SvRkMj7jpAp49Z57OgopLWHCcfl1zElW21_PdY7y2wrx2IyIgP299cre8ccg4$ ) rather than relying on the contents of the external standard, to avoid the potential governance issues we always have when standards outside of CF's influence are brought in. Would the "binary" terms be valid, as well as the "decimal" ones? -- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread.
