XP is only a consumer level product, a replacement for the 9x/ME series. The
next server version of Windows is tentatively called Windows 2002. However,
the last I heard, the release date has been pushed back from the 1st quarter
of 2002 to the 4th and possibly into 2003. I assume they are going to change
the name again if it gets that far out. After Windows 2002 comes
Windows.Net, which is slated for 2005 to 2006.

The security in Windows 2000 is as good or better than the security in
Windows NT 4.0, provided you keep up with the service packs and hotfixes.
Be sure you apply Win2K SP2 and the IIS 5.0 hotfix rollup at a minimum.
There's probably several others you'll want to install as well, but the
great thing is that many (but not all) of them appear in the Windows Update
utility automatically. However, you definitely want to go with Windows
2000 Server or Advanced Server, not Professional. Windows 2000
Professional is the workstation edition. You can also choose to wait and
be an early adopter of Windows XP Server if you like. =B)

I only have one remaining NT 4.0 server, and it's scheduled for replacement
by a Windows 2000 server as soon as I can get the new hardware racked and
cabled.

Hello,

We are considering upgrading from NT4.0 sp6a to 2000 professional. Is this
a good move? I am not overly familiar with 2000 and am a little concerned
about its security. At the same time I have heard that CF 5.0 is
considerably faster on 2000.

Are there any good resources regarding the upgrade? From a CFSERVER
perspective is it warranted. Are most of you already upgraded?

Thanks for the help!

Brook
