Jump ship? You have to remember what CFMX is. CFMX is actually a Java
application running in JRun (or Websphere, or whatever other Java engine you
want). The issue is tweaking the JVM to run on your particular hardware &
load setup. It's not uncommon for a specific application to need the JVM
adjusted to optimize the power of that application. ColdFusion does this.
I've seen Oracle do this as well. It does not seem to be an issue of
platform (Win over Unix over Linux, etc). I'd not get too bent out of shape
over it. You just do some reading and work with it. Sometimes, it's also
an issue of tuning the settings in your CF Administrator as well. Because
the hardware (CPU, RAM, etc) varies so much from system to system, it's
impossible for there to be a one size fits all solution. And if you're
running other Java applications side by side with your ColdFusion, you'll
probably have more tuning issues. So I would not be too hard on ColdFusion
for this.

Good luck,
Dave Hannum
