Well its not really MM's problem - the performance of your app is ultimately
down to your tweaks in the JVM and the state of your code - most performance
issues are a direct result of code gobbling up too much memory.

Thanks.  I apologize for the rashness but it is very frustrating that 
MACR does not seem to offer much help anywhere.  This seems to be a 
widespread issue from what I read and no real support anywhere.  I will 
keep digging but it is very disappointing.
