Another thing to look at is other software on the server.  Especially 
anti-virus and anti-spam.  Look in the task manager to see what tasks 
are using up the cpu, and have the most page faults..
also check the apparent speed when viewed directly on the server.  If 
it is much faster than viewed over the network, it could be the 
network card or cable
