Yes, forgot to say that. When I tested a similar setup, the avg. request
time went up by about 1 second, even though I was using trusted cache and
had a 100Mbit network. At that time Dave pointed out that CF/NT might be
checking ACLs even though the file itself was not being retrieved over the
net.
I gave up on that approach...

I understand the attractiveness of this approach, but if you're
concerned
about performance, you'd be much better off simply replicating content
from
a central file server to the local filesystems of each web server. File
access over the LAN is pretty expensive from a performance perspective.
