The Mac OS X server ($499.00) is built around the Mach Kernel. Comes with (Apache
Server-Mac OS GUI interface) BSD UNIX, JAVA and WebObjects. I don't know if it is
the same version of WebObjects. I would assume, yes because this means you have a
Apple computer. Steve Jobs is not messing around. What they just did was take a
$50,000 dollar package and make it available to end users that couldn't ever
afforded it before. No hype here, straight logical business. A little over 2000
registered licensed owners of $50,000 WebObjects package. Take the figure $699 X,
lets say 200,000 which is a very conservative figure for the base of Apple
computer users world wide to purchase WebObjects. What Jobs is doing is trying to
get the base away from NT to any other platform. The more Microsoft looses their
base the better it is for Apple. And the new G4's are work stations not for the
public. No Intel based computer can touch them. Out of the box can hold 1.5
gigabytes of RAM. Only work stations would ever need that much RAM. Apple is
aggressively going after their share of the business market. Desktop publishing,
graphics, nonlinear video & audio editing ( they invented Quicktime ) and now IT /
ecommerce. They are putting their money where their mouth is.
