Correct, my beginner's book does not cover CFCs. If you want something which concentrates on new features of CFMX, go with ColdFusion: The Complete Reference <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0072225564/instantcoldfu-20> . It was built from the ground up for CFMX.
I don't know if I would recommend it for anyone who has no programming experience, because it only glazes over programming topics to move onto more interesting stuff.
