temp directory to the destination specified with CFFILE.
If I understand what your trying to say is that CF is reading the file
from IIS's temp document directory? Which totally goes against what
Barney said.
1. If a file is uploaded via a form, with using CFFILE or not, CF
saves a tmp file in the tmp directory?
2. If one is true why then does my test files not show up in the
tmp directory?
3. If 1 is false your saying IIS does the uploading. Then if IIS
does that uploading CF just reads the binary information from IIS's tmp
file directory and no file is written to the tmp directory?
Item 3 doesn't seem to make since.

The upload is actually not handled by CF, but by the HTTP server.
The code <CFFILE ACTION="" is misleading: the action is not
actually an upload, but just moving the file from the location the HTTP
server has stored it, to the location specified in the CFFILE tag.
The upload is not triggered by the CFFILE tag, but by the form action
and method.
CFFILE will just handle the file once it has been uploaded.
Now, where does the HTTP server stores the file temporarily, is another
question.
