Not a rumor - http://www.opendarwin.org/
I have installed it a couple times to play around with it. Pretty
impressive. The Apple GUI is *not* included (you'll need to get
xwindows and gnome or kde or ...), but most servers don't have GUIs
anyone (not worth mentioning anyway)
Open source and free btw with lots of apps ported already (it's really
a modified BSD system) http://darwinports.opendarwin.org/

Postgres - which is the next generation ingres that everyone seems so
enamored with - is a very robust database (and yes it does stored
procedures)

I think the main reason more people don't run apples is they are expensive.
> Could Apple grab the Linux/Unix desktop?
I don't think so only because Linux has more drivers for x86 hardware
then BSD (and therefore OSX) does; however, if they would lower their
prices on the Gs and ditch the "I am an artist therefore I use a Mac"
image, I think they have a good chance at a larger desktop share.
> Could Apple make a dent in the windows desktop?
Windows, I think, is its own worst enemy at this point. They are going
to drive people off their own stuff because they are too hard headed.
I've heard more people say "I want to get my business off Microsoft
products" more so then ever.
People didn't think the Roman Empire would fall either.
> Is this the time and place?
Not yet, but soon.
> Should they?
Yes by all means
I know this is off topic, but I've had a rough day and this seems to
lighten the mood a bit :)
