Rick...speaking as someone that had zero Java experience...CF MX 6.x has been no problem at all. I always like to look at the new features, but as you stated...a lot of them I don't need. Although when the time came that I did need them, I found it relatively easy to pick it up and run with it (such as using the iText open source Java based PDF genetrator to build complex PDFs on the fly).
