I think one guy tried the virtual version of that and failed. He posted fake email addresses and when those addresses received email he spammed the spammers back. I think they got together and DDOSed his site. Shortly after he closed down the company. Can't remember the name off the top of my head though.
Don't underestimate the spammers. These guys make a lot of money and have some powerful friends. I hear the people that bought a bunch of domains that were basically typos of real domains, something that dell suid them for because of copyright infringement, were clearing over 2 million a month. That kind of money gets you some powerful friends.
