Well, what he said, and as an addendum: sometimes you'll need to look
up the specifics of the driver-- pass custom options and whatnot.

If you're lucky there are some specs available, and you can look 'em up.

Checking DB logs and stuff (if there are any available) sometimes help
track oddities down too...

ODBC is... well, I like to avoid it these days, so nothing's coming to
mind.  If it verifies, I'd say you're close.
