In fact I'd tried this combination, but I tried again, and no, doesn't work, same as many other variants I've tried.
I've studied the two neos you suggest, the most interesting thing I found is in neo-query.xml where jdbc-odbc-bridge has an attribute 'handler' with a value pointing at jdbcodbc.cfm which is in CFIDE\administrator\datasources\ I thought this might contain some interesting clues, but this cfm file is encrypted...
