1. I understand it. PostgreSQL internals translate extremely well to what you will read when you read a textbook on database systems. And what I don't understand I can just look up in the source code which I can actually understand despite the fact that I don't write C. 2. The emphasis on correctness, stability and security. 3. The licensing model. 4. The developers community is very open and very much a meritocracy.
