Randy,

Many users hate getting extra email. I have two message-based sites each with
1300+ users and only 80 subscribers on one and 200 on the other. The rest
prefer to go to the site at their liesure and read all new posts since their
last login. I send them a reminder every couple of months to make sure the
email address still works, and that they remember they're members.

Website messages can be public, for good SEO value, or private, for other
obvious reasons.

New members can go back and see what's been discussed. Can't do that with a
listserv unless it databases old messages. Even if it does the interface can be
clunky.

On-site message search is an excellent benefit, for those who prefer to not
store hundreds of old messages in their email.

My 2c.

Mik
