Randy, House of Fusion uses a custom system that has evolved over the years. It would be rather easy for someone to write their own but as others have said, there are pre-built systems that have the same basic features which would cost less than writing something from scratch or even from already built modules.
The only real advantage of what I've built here is anti-spam capability and some SEO built in (though not as much as it should). I have a number of design enhancements to go in but I do them very slow to be very sure it'll all be ok.
